Welcome to Month by Month:

This blog is my own little version of organization central. We touch on just about every aspect of home, family, and holiday organization here. It is my hope that by blogging my experiences, I can grow as an individual and perhaps inspire others to try new things and think about everyday life a little differently. So please join us in organizing for life every month of the year!

April 2008 Personal Life Goals

This month my goals are going to be a little different. They are going to focus more on changing attitudes and fostering a positive outlook. When I originally started the personal goals I tried to focus more on "process" rather than having an end result or finished product. I have enough "to do" lists as it is...LOL. So this month I am going to try to put a "process" twist on the whole goal list and see how that might or might not change things.

Marriage: Foster a more respectful attitude. Even when I get frustrated and annoyed.

Family: Evaluate climate in our home. Work toward calm, supportive, and nurturing.

Friends: Develop and positive and strengths based tone to emails, discussions, and exchanges (not just venting)

Self: Practice self talk and meditation focused on finding inner peace and calmness.

Home: Comtinue decluttering and develop a calm, simplified home

Work: Foster a positive, dynamic attitude toward problems. Let go of those that can not be changed.

Hobbies: Create a better work space. Buy lamps for extra lighting and continue to declutter. MAKE something...anything!!! Have fun with the process...don't worry about the end result.

Spiritual: Cultivate a "renewal in spirit" attitude. Each day is a fresh start!

Reflection for March Personal Life Goals

March wasn't a particularly good month with my goals but here goes:

Marriage: Well, still haven't really managed a date night. But we have talked this over and have a "plan" for the future.

Family: Managed about 50% of the Sunday dinners and did have our family breakfast for the month! It was a fairly simple one but still ...progress!!

Friends: Just has our game night and it was a lot of fun. We had barbeques beef (prepared in crockpot) sandwiches, potato salad, chips, and strawberry shortcake, as well as some other snacks. We played the Wii and laughed at each other! I also particpated in the Trivia fubndraiser although I only knew the answer to about two questions.

Self: No on the exercise part, yes on the water part, and celebrate me has been ignored....gotta get on track with that...April will be much better. I'm sure!

Home: Room a Month plan...ending up getting about 80% finished so pretty good for the month!

Work: Finished survey and report for the board!!!

Hobbies: I completed several pages in the Celebrate Me art journal as well as trying some new techniques! Unfortunately did not get to work on the altered art stuff.

Spiritual: Journal is not going too well but I have been reading my daily devotional. It is amazing how often they "fit" my day!

I'll be back later to post my April Personal Life Goals...gonna change them up a bit for APRIL.

January Personal Life Goals: A Reflection

The habit of setting monthly life goals started about four or five years ago as part of the boards of Organized Christmas. Some people set general goals but I found it useful to divide my monthly goals into "life categories". Here are the ones from January 2008 with a short reflection about each one.

Marriage: Spend more one on one time talking to DH's....honestly sometimes I just tune him out. For January I have made progress on this one. I find that sometimes I become easily frustrated with topics he chooses so I need to spend some time reminding myself that my interests or not always his interests or concerns.

Family: Have a special "fancy" sit down dinner at least twice this month...maybe on the test it days (with the new recipes) This has been going very well...we have been doing it every Sunday.

Friends: Check on dear friend who just had surgery. Her surgery went very well which is a blessing.

Self: Start exercise program...even just ten minutes daily.
Celebrate Me on the 15th.
Both parts of this one can be a struggle for me so this will get rolled over into my February goals for self.

Home: Stick to the JumpStart January PLAN.
Establish morning and evening routines and stick to them!
This is a work in progress but as long as I am moving forward I will consider it a success.

Work: Create "workable files" so I can find what I need.
Although I have made progress here, this is still an area that can reduce the stress in my life and needs to continue to be followed up with.

Hobbies: Find Creative Time Weekly. I have made progress with this goal and with my new challenge Write Daily 2008 I think I will continue to move forward. I am still working on my Artistic 8s in 2008 also.

Spiritual: Daily Devotionals.
I have made a lot of progress with this as I have two devotional books I keep at work. I can either start the day with one or if it's too hectic then I can read the daily entry at lunch.
