Summer Sensations (I Spy)

Another creative kid's kit....gather lots of little odds and ends...pieces of jewlry, bottle caps, little shells, random game pieces no longer needed etc. Store them in a shoe box ....this will become the I Spy kit. The I Spy project is based on the popular I Spy books so if you have one or see one...pick it up and keep it in or with the shoe box. Then on a hot afternoon when the kids need a little project pull out the box and let them create I SPY pages. I've put some examples up over at Creative Kids Corner....you can see them HERE.

Bugs Galore (Summer Sensations)

Okay here's another idea for a Summer Sensations kit for the kids...this one falls under Exploration. Create a Bugs Galore Kit...this can be stored in a shoe box or even a small suitcase. These items are sure to produce an afternoon or a whole day's worth of exploration into the tiny world of insects.

List of Items for the Bugs Galore Kit

• Bug jar (You can make your own from a plastic mayo jar or Walmart has some cheap ones)
• Magifying glass
• Sticks or twigs for picking up bugs
• Small guide to different kinds of insects
• Bug Journal for recording
• A map of the backyard for recording where they find insects
• A flashlight
• A small ruler (for determining size)
• Tweezers
• Butterfly net
• Little plastic bugs (just for fun and pretend play or setting up a bug museum)
• Index cards for note taking or making labels for the museum
• DVD about bugs...like Bugs Life, Antz, etc...this is for the hot afternoon after a day of bug exploring.
• Recipe for Bug Juice to make and drink during the movie...

I'm sure there are a few items I am forgetting...so I may add to the list later!!

Pirate Fest Kit (Summer Sensations)

The first kit is a prop kit....find a box, basket, or storage container and be on the look out for the following items:

• Pirate hat



• Pirate or skull and crossbones handkerchiefs



• Gold coins



• Treasure chests



• Swords



• Hooks

The items pictured here are from orientaltrading.com. That is a great source when you are creating prop and activity boxes. Another place to look for fun pirate items are at a party supply store. Pirates are a popular theme so you are sure to find some fun little items to add to the Pirate box. Also check local dollar stores for gold coins etc.

Summer Sensations Kits

Just a little update on the Summer Sensations Kits I have been mentioning. For the kiddos...the kits will be one of four things:

• A Prop Kit (for imaginative play)
• A Crafty Kit
• An Exploration Kit
• An Experience Kit

I've started an idea list over at Creative Kids Corner and will fine tune those ideas as well as add some others. I will be posting more shortly about the Kids Summer Sensations Kits so we can get some together! I am still pondering ideas for some Adult Summer Sensations and will get some ideas up shortly.

Summer Sensations

I am going to be working on some Summer Sensation ideas here at Month by Month. These will be ideas, kits, projects for the summer. And I am talking fun not cleaning. I would like to create a comprehensive list of ideas for kids and then one for ourselves to choose from during the summer months....just for fun!!!

This will be one of the parts of our Summer Seasonal Notebook...I woul love to hear your ideas also so feel free to leave a comment with ideas or use the little message board if that is easier. Or just let me know if this is an idea worth exploring more!!!
